Smith & Wesson

a legendary brand, locked and loaded for eCommerce

There are very few truly American brands. The kinds of companies that create products that have withstood the test of time for as long as our history is rich, and that seem to define a national character. Smith & Wesson is one of those brands. Founded in 1852, this American institution is the largest manufacturer of firearms in the United States and is still innovating after more than 150 years. Turning to WebLinc, Smith & Wesson continued in that vein with a swath of new technology, powerful website design and some of the coolest product merchandising available on the web.

To start, WebLinc’s design created an arresting look that combines the history and power of Smith & Wesson. The color scheme uses Smith & Wesson brand blue, but pairs it with a gun-metal texture to give the site a modern and serious feel while maintaining a style neutral enough to appeal to the company’s diverse customer base. Peruse the dynamically stylized dropdown navigation and you’ll see editable call-outs and close-ups with embedded video capabilities on home and category landing pages, editable image carousels and stunning 360-degree product detail pages. Customizable up-sells and cross-sells, social media functionality, wish lists and a mini-cart to keep track of products placed in the cart were also added to bring the technology up to the level that the product commands.

In addition to all of these incredible merchandising capabilities, Smith & Wesson also uses some very effective informational tools to encourage and promote conversions. Since online sales of firearms are prohibited, Smith & Wesson utilizes a Find-a-Dealer function to allow users to search for local dealers by either location or firearm. The site provides the tools necessary to inform and educate, providing the kind of legitimate and accurate information necessary for the industry, all while maintaining a sophisticated level of branding.

For Smith & Wesson, the brand equals the product. Customers have come to expect perfection with every single functioning piece of each individual item -- there is no room for exception. Now Smith & Wesson can say the same thing about its online presence. WebLinc has helped to elevate the Smith & Wesson customer experience using the best and most innovative technology on the web and in doing so has helped to pen another chapter in one of the most storied brands in American history.
