Half.com, an eBay company, is the Internet's 3rd most popular ecommerce destination and offers people a fixed-price, online marketplace to buy and sell high quality, previously owned goods at discounted prices.
Unlike auctions, where the selling price is based on bidding, the seller fixes the price for items at the time an item is listed allowing for immediate purchase.
Needing a fully integrated, road tested design and technical team to act as a "pressure valve" for the internal staff's workload during the creation of its consumer to consumer Web site, Half.com chose WebLinc to assist the company during this crucial stage of development.
WebLinc assisted Half.com in its identity development, site information architecture, middleware development, site illustrations, page graphic design and developed their business development site.
The largest challenge during this project was developing an easy to use site architecture that could scale from the 200,000 products listed at launch to the 100+ million products today.
After convincing a town in Oregon to rename themselves 'Half.com, Oregon' the launch of this site was a very public event.
To make matters more significant, we were notified several days before launch that the CEO of Half.com would be interviewed on the Today Show during the first minutes of the site's launch. The popular site launch scaled with the incredible traffic numbers flawlessly.
Six months after launch, Half.com was bought by eBay for approximately $300 million.
